YAY HORSIE!
“Yaaaay, horsie! Yaaaay, horsie!” My 2-year-old granddaughter, Juliet, clapped gleefully as she repeated these words over and over again from the back seat of the car on my recent visit to Idaho. She excitedly pointed out the horses in the pasture we passed along the way, her joy so infectious that I couldn’t help but be caught up into it. As we continued down the long stretch of road, she gasped with delight at each passing expanse of grassland, “Yaaaay, horsie! Yaaaay, horsie! she shouted and clapped exuberantly. I clapped and cheered along with her, laughing at her obvious enthusiasm. And then I heard God say, “Take notice” so I paid closer attention. It was then that I realized that I hadn’t actually seen any horses except in the very first pasture. And yet, Juliet had celebrated each grassy area as if they were filled with them.
God spoke clearly to my Spirit about this precious child. He said, “She’s been down this road before and has seen horses in these pastures. She doesn’t need to see them again to believe their existence. She simply believes.
“Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable, and learn about heaven’s kingdom realm with the wide-eyed wonder of a child, you will never be able to enter in.” (Matthew 18:3 TPT)
Wow! Point taken! On this beautiful Spring day in Boise, God was teaching me a very valuable lesson through the wide-eyed wonder of my joy-filled Juliet.
I was reminded of the things that I had been praying for and the disappointment that I sometimes felt at not seeing these prayers answered right away. Then God brought to mind the many times in my life where I had experienced His faithfulness; His healings and breakthroughs. In truth, I had tasted and seen His goodness over and over again—Too many times to count. “Remember the testimonies,” He said. “Remember what I’ve done so you’ll have faith for what I will do.” In Joshua 4, after the Israelites safely crossed the Jordan, God asked Joshua to remove stones to serve as a sign of God’s faithfulness to future generations. Stones of remembrance.
“In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” (Joshua 4:6-7)s.
